Rec Plex

Why not end the season with a race that's as cold as the one I began the season with? Well, for starters my body can't handle the brutality of cold weather.

Arrived at the race site and I could have sworn that it was below freezing out there. Okay so maybe I'm exaggerating just a little bit. Set everything up and proceeded to hang out in the Rec Plex and watch the 177 people who registered before me swim their 500M. Finally, around 8:30 I got ready to go. I felt great during the swim... all triathlons should take place in the pool. Walls are glorious things. I didn't really go all out and I wasn't very aggressive when it came to passing people. I had thought about catching up to Rodney Adkison who started a minute ahead of me but I only made up about 20 seconds. As nice as the swim was, I had a heck of a time getting out of the pool though.

The bike was M-I-S-E-R-A-B-L-E. Seriously, I must have lost my mind thinking that running out of a nice warm building in a wet swimsuit only to hop on a bike and go for a 20 mile ride would be pleasant. It was so damn cold I just couldn't make my legs move any faster than about 19.6 miles per hour on average. I think that's my slowest split of the summer (well except for maybe RFS). My left quad would not loosen up no matter what I tried. I went about 5 minutes slower than I had originally wanted to go. So much for pounding on the bike so that I could relax on the run.

The run which is ususally my most dreaded part (perhaps because its at the end...) was actually my best run of the year. I supposedly averaged 7:16 miles according to the results. I don't necessarily know if I buy that because I think I still had more in me that I could have given which makes me think my split was closer to averaging 7:30s or maybe even a little slower.

Anyways, I was the 3rd female overall. I don't know how I feel about the race. I guess I feel I did okay but I know that deep down I can always do better... something to work on for next season.
